This car is a 1958 MG ZB Magnette. I received it in March 1998, and this is the one that I had been restoring more or less until 2006, when I ran out of room and had to pass it along. The exterior had been stripped to bare metal, restored and professionally painted. The interior had been removed from the car, as well as a complete interior from a second parts car, and the best parts had been collected for installation. The original front seats had been replaced with Saab leather seats, a popular conversion as the originals
do not have headrests and are not terribly comfortable. The car had been gone through mechnically and was a solid driver when last used regularily (approx 2003). Engine bores were inspected and honed, new gaskets installed. The brake / clutch master cylinder was resleeved and rebuild. The exhaust was new from approximately firewall back. Tires were new, less than 100 miles. Grill was presentable. All gauges and switches worked. I'll miss it, but I was probably not going to finish it for years... A period pamphlet for the Z Magnette... |
