The Real Images...

This part of my site is full of scanned real images of the midget. I include a short writeup beside each if something came into my mind as I was posting the pic.

All of these images are thumbnails, click on the image to see a larger version.

[ Midget ]   As I received it. Note the incorrect painting pattern on the RoStyles, later fixed. Also note incorrectly painted sills, but this I can't change so easily so it'll stay until I do something major. You can tell this car is new to that parking spot, there is no oil stain.... yet.

[ Midget ]   When you own British Cars, you get really used to towing them around. It becomes not such a big deal anymore, along with pay phones and long unplanned walks.
August 1996
[ Midget ]   Off to the local parts shop for a new engine. This picture is taken at The Sports Car Factory.
August 1996
[ Midget ]   Close up view of new bottom end installed. It's so clean and.... so blue. It almost doesn't belong in there with all the rest of the dirty mess. The car actually stays clean now, this engine doesn't leak a drop.

[ Midget ]   Engine Compartment. Standard Fare. This is a North-American spec Midget, with a single Stromberg CD-150 instead of a pair of SUs. Maybe a modification for a future day...
August 1996
[ Midget ]   This is the original engine. The thrown rod was crudely repaired with weld, as you can see. The welding lasted, but the block was not true and kept blowing head gaskets, among other problems. It also didn't come with thrust washers installed, having likely driven that way for a few years. Kids, don't try this at home.

[ Midget ]   Also the original engine, this bearing has spun. There is a piece of thrust washer beside the bearing cap top right.

[ Midget ]   Current resting place of that engine, at the front of my garage. I took a few pieces off it, but the crank is still there. I spin it every now and then so it doesn't seize up, but I have no plans to reuse it when engines are still fairly cheap. It would be a cold day before this one is worth redoing.

[ Midget ]   Me at the wheel. They advertise "wind in your face" but it's really "hair in your face".
October 1997
[ Midget ]   My trusty companion Mellissa aka: The Breakdown Pokeroo. The car never breaks down when she is in it, so I try to have her around. Update: I did have one breakdown when she was there, but her effect was still present, as the breakdown was only 2 km from home, only a short walk for needed parts and tools.
October 1997
[ Midget ]   Fresh from the junkyards of the UK, a set of SU-HS4 carbs and manifold. This should allow the 1500cc engine to breathe a bit better.
March 1998
[ Midget ]   The fuel pump decided to pack it in. Here's the old one (left) with the new one (right). Note that neither is original, the original is mechanical.

Chronologically, the overdrive and SU conversion goes in here.

[ Midget ]   Another otherwise lovely trip ends on the back of a tow truck. I really should just buy one of these.

[ Midget ]   The culprit this time, a broken valve spring. Luckily it broke near the end and didn't fall far, so no damage was done. An easy and quick fix, but it took me a week to get the parts in and find the time. And while it was parked waiting for this repair the water pump leak turned from a drip into a torrent...
